Knowing that I get to sleep and wake up to Beckett makes waking up worth it. He woke me up this morning by eating me out and then making me breakfast. Randy had texted me late last night asking if we could meet his boy toy soon, so I agreed. Iâm not going to lie and say I was overly thrilled about him meeting someone, but he deserves to have someone that can belong to him. I just donât think anyone will be good enough for him. Overly protective? Maybe.
Iâm currently waiting for Beck to get back from his morning run when I start snooping. His place is pretty spacious for him to be only twenty-one. Although, itâs sparsely decorated. I walk to the guest room, making a mental note on what we should add. When I twist the doorknob it wonât open.
Huh, thatâs odd.
Turning back around, I make my way into the kitchen. He has a beautiful view of his backyard. Thereâs a gorgeous willow oak tree standing tall in the backyard, so I walk outside to admire it.
Beck comes to stand beside me and admires the tree with me. He takes my hand and gently lays it on the bark. The leaves are pear shaped and about two to five inches long with tiny bristles at the tip.
Beck runs his hands over the tree and sighs. âDid you know that after fifteen years of growth this tree will drop its first acorns and will go on to become one of the most prolific producers of acorns thatâll nourish all sorts of wildlife,â he asks.
The corner of his mouth quirks up as he runs his hands over the thick, dark bark. I pick up a fallen twig that has a few leaves on it. âItâs gorgeous,â I murmur.
He beams with pride as he spouts off another fact. âIt grows in a pyramidal shape while itâs young and then becomes oblong in what we would probably call itâs teenage years, only to be a rounded shape when it hits adulthood.â Heâs walking us around the tree now. âI guess the reason Iâm so attached to this tree is because, like my youth, it tolerates poorly drained soil. So the environment it comes from affects it but doesnât define it. The soil wasnât the best but yet, here it stands tall and beautiful,â he says.
Iâm completely awestruck by his knowledge. âWhat made you want to learn about trees?â I ask as he grabs my hand and leads us back into the house. He walks to the kitchen and grabs a bottle of water and takes a sip before answering.
âThatâs why I do what I do for work. Most of the time when we clear out peopleâs trees or stumps, they're dead. People like planting new ones for the next generation. I guess I like knowing that even in a hundred years she'll be standing strong, even when Iâm gone. Plus, this tree reminds me of my mom. At least what I remember of her,â he explains.
